We know old Volvos can travel 500k+ miles, and most Hondas will go on forever. But What about todays cars?
Which car made today will last the longest? Which car can go until the floor pans rust out, and even then you can acummulate more miles on the engine? (No Camrys)
My pick for today's car that will go for the longest will be the Volvo XC-90. Because Sweden.
This will go on forever. Swedish reliability, and can go almost anywhere. A cheap Land Rover, if you will.

Swedish reliability doesn't me dick if it has a GM transmission.

They aren't reliable. Many family friends have had a slew of issues with these cars - mostly electronic.
The easy choice is any naturally aspirated V-8 pickup. I prefer push-rod reliability to overhead cam.

Old Volvo wagons last forever...therefore new Volvo wagons should last forever.
At least this is the argument I am telling my wife. :)

To support your argument, here's a 2008 C220 CDI with 500,000km on the teller:

Get the Polestar. Thats a cool wagon.

I know that first had buddy. Have probably done around 50 myself.

Depending on your wallet and love for it, all cars will do it :]

Tempting but with only 120 examples coming to the US finding a CPO Polestar in a few years for a good price is going to be damn near impossible. I would be perfectly happy with a T6 R.

I'm going to Volvo training next week to learn more about those engines in Dallas. Manager's meeting also next week in Vegas to debut the production XC90. Only managers though :(

They're boring and decidedly un-jalop, but people in my family keep buying them, and they keep lasting forever and ever and ever.

Oh I love ''Klokje rond'' !
Have you seen the one with the Maserati? over 300k IIRC...
I think I'll do a post on this later..

There is one in Montgomery, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it.

They are already getting there.... J bodies. Seriously, you'd think they'd have stopped selling them 2-3 years ago. No. Instead they stopped 9 years ago...and they are EVERYWHERE still.

Doesn't polestar also offer the conversion on regular models?

Really? Damn.....

I think my '13 MX-5 has a shot at super high mileage. That is, if I drive it enough.
Its simple, has few power things to burn out, and has a MZR engine that is utterly understressed. A few parts here and there is all it will need for 200,000+

I'm not sure I have but I'll look it up now. The segment is a favourite of mine too, I like to subscribe to a few dutch channels to keep up with the language a little bit.

Sort of...you can get the S60 T6 with the upgraded "Polestar" tune that increases the power to 325/354 hp-tq. But the V60 T6 comes standard with that upgrade. As for more boost to equal the Polestar V60 I don't think you can get that yet.

Actually, I have a 2.0 TDI now that is plagued with problems. Mostly computer and ECU problems, however. Liveable but annoying.

weird. my dad has on, and it just keep chugging. 4 years now, 125000km, and not a SINGLE hiccup. starts first time, every time, and purrs like a kitten. suspension and everything feels like new too. int hardly shows anywhere or tear, and this is a car used for the daily slog to and from work.

''Op de rollerbank'' is also fun to watch!

Yep, always good to see how close they actually tend to come to their claimed power figures. They do a good job of picking neat cars too.

There hasn't been a non-durable Land cruiser since...ever.
The J200 will, given the right maintenance, go as long as you want.

5 cylinder VW's will last a while.
no, not a joke. The 2.5L's "swan song year" is 2014, but the engine has been around in one for or another since the early 1980's (See: VW Quantum, Audi 80)
There's no doubt in my mind that in 5-15 years, we'll start seeing 250,000 mile jettas, golfs, and passats
